Business ain’t what it used to be. But that’s a good thing. After the pandemic and the Great Resignation that followed, the methods companies use to attract and retain employees are now taking new forms.
Thryv is no different. And the changes we’ve incorporated have made a difference to our employees. This week, Newsweek ranked Thryv 37 on the publication’s Top 100 list of America’s Most Loved Workplaces® list for 2022.
We Love Where We Work
The list recognizes U.S. companies that put respect, caring and appreciation for their employees at the center of their business model. In doing so, they’ve earned the loyalty and respect of the people who work for them.
“The companies on this list represent the best at placing love at the center of their employee’s experience,” says Louis Carter, CEO of the Best Practice Institute, a leadership development and benchmark research company.
“The number of applications this year … reinforces our original findings that love is the strongest predictor of the strength of a company’s culture, employee engagement and satisfaction,” he says.
To arrive at the top 100, Newsweek and the Best Practice Institute surveyed more than 1.4 million people from workforces ranging in size from 50 to over 10,000 employees.
“This is the result of over 2,500 employees remaining dedicated to a diverse and inclusive culture, celebrating big wins, nurturing improvements together and collaborating across all departments to help save small business America,” says Lesley Bolger, chief legal officer and human resources lead at Thryv.
Welcoming Change
Along with the rest of the country, the Dallas-based company went remote in March 2020. But then we decided we liked the change.
Untethered by geography, Thryv could divest some real estate. We could expand our hiring pools. We were no longer confined to certain regions. The company officially went to a work-from-anywhere model, and hasn’t looked back.
“Our employees are the core of our organization,” says Thryv Chairman and CEO Joe Walsh. “Since becoming an exclusive work-from-anywhere organization, we have focused significantly on the employee experience.”
Nurturing engaged employees has been a key initiative within Thryv. Affinity groups, Thryv’s “Culture Clubs,” are springing up throughout the organization, gathering like-minded employees interested in anything from books and travel to home automation and self development.
Monthly “Lunch & Learns” provide education and discussion on topics such as setting boundaries in a work-from-anywhere world, or the impact of your personal brand. The diversity, equity and inclusion team provide learning to coincide with monthly heritage or awareness months.
One of the more popular employee engagement efforts is the Accelerator program. The program recognizes 10 employees each month for representing Thryv’s core values.
As part of the program, coworkers can nominate one another for “Culture Cash” awards for performing great work. The cash then can be used to buy Thryv swag at the company store.
“Thryv believes when our employees have a positive work experience, our customers see the biggest benefits,” Walsh says. “It’s great to see those efforts validated by (the survey’s) results.”
